Head Coach Billy Thiebaut

Catholic University head coach Billy Thiebaut enters his 1st season as a collegiate soccer head coach. Thiebaut spent the past nine seasons coaching club and high school teams and playing on a variety of domestic professional soccer leagues.

Thiebaut has a history of building and turning around soccer programs. In 1995, he built East St. John High School's first soccer program from the ground up. And in 1996, he took over a U-14 Lafreniere Lightening boys club soccer team and guided them to their first-ever Louisiana State Championship and first appearance in the USYSA regional soccer tournament.

He later showed the same ability when he took Hayfield Secondary School in Northern Virginia from 1-13 in 1999 to 11-3-4 during the 2003 season. Along the way, Hayfield was crowned the 2003 Patriot District champions in arguably the most competitive district in Virginia, and posted three seasons in the Northern Region high school soccer tournament.

His colleagues have recognized his efforts by honoring him as the Patriot District and Northern Region coach of the year for the 2003 season.

A native of Pueblo, Colo., Thiebaut played college soccer at the University of New Mexico. His professional playing experience included stints with the New Mexico Chilis, New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers, Albuquerque Geckos, and Northern Virginia Royals.

Thiebaut holds a USSF National "B" and "Youth" coaching license. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics and anthropology from The University of New Mexico, a master’s in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University, a master’s of economics from the University of New Mexico, and is currently working on his doctorate in educational administration and policy studies from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

His wife, Laurie Magovern, is the Director of Education at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. The couple recently had their first child, Jude.
